How BMI is calculated
BMI is calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. It's a widely used screening tool, but it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, age or sex, so it's best treated as a general guide rather than a precise health diagnosis.
Categories: below 18.5 is Underweight, 18.5–24.9 is Normal, 25–29.9 is Overweight, and 30 or above is Obese.
