How to use it
- Enter the start time.
- Enter the end time.
- If the end time is on the next day (like an overnight shift), check the box.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate an overnight shift that crosses midnight?
Enter the start time as normal, enter the end time, and check "End time is the next day" — the calculator then adds 24 hours to the end time before working out the duration.
Why is there a decimal hours result?
Decimal hours (like 7.5 instead of 7 hours 30 minutes) are often needed for timesheets and payroll systems that calculate pay by fractional hours.
Does this account for daylight saving time changes?
No — it treats both times as being on a normal day with 24 hours, so it won't adjust for a clock change happening between the start and end time.
