About HEIC files
HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default since iOS 11. It's smaller than JPG at the same quality, but many apps and older devices can't open it — converting to JPG fixes that. If your HEIC file is a Live Photo, only the still image is converted; the motion part isn't carried over.
